The Tokyo Quartet, today led by Canadian violinist Martin Beaver, have captivated audiences worldwide for more than forty years. Their distinguished career has produced many landmark recordings with Angel-EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, RCA Victor, and Harmonia Mundi. Their recent Beethoven quartet cycle releases on Harmonia Mundi have received outstanding critical acclaim, especially the set of late quartets, one of which they will play for us. We have enjoyed their past concerts for us, most recently in 2008 with guest clarinetist Sabine Meyer.
These players come as a well honed package. The purity of the ensemble is paramount. Individual showmanship is not in their repertoire.
